Have you ever tried to hunt down some piece of VGM or a soundtrack, but can't for the life of you find a single sign it even exists? If so, care to share your horror stories/triumphs here?
As for me, currently I'm working my way through finding the VGM for a Mac RPG called The Odyssey: The Legend of Nemesis. The odd thing about this game is that it doesn't have originally composed music, but rather uses a lot of famous classical pieces as it's VGM.
Granted, that'd probably make finding the tracks a little easier, but first I have to know what tracks to look for. As it is, I can't find a tracklisting for the game anywhere (probably because it's all copyrighted music). So, this is probably going to take me a long while to hunt everything down. *sigh*
Though, I did score one track last night. Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1. It's a really soothing piano piece. If you're into that kind of stuff, I suggest you download it. :)

Well, I'm still looking for a rip of some of the music from Arena - the Elder Scrolls ( the first on in the series, that is.)
Might and Magic 4 - Clouds of Xeen was kind of hard to find as well.
I also got to help krys fulfill her request to find a complete soundtrack from Mystaria on the Sega Saturn. It turned out there was an official soundtrack called RigLordSaga Original Soundtrack that contained all the music from the game.

Long before I discovered GFF I tried to get the FF7 OST over kazaa. All 4 cd's. At the same quality.
THAT WAS HELL.
I did manage to get it though.

Heh, that's one that I have never even heard of. Does it have another name in Japanese?

I'm not sure. I'll investigate the matter further.

I remember searching for the Drakan soundtrack for over a year. There was no official soundtrack released AFAIK, but the game CD provided 10+ audio tracks. Problem was, very few people still had the original game CD. I searched on Napster, Audiogalaxy, Kazaa... not one single track.
I eventually put forth a request on the GFF forums, and it was answered by Auric, who had resorted to obtaining the CD through an online trade.

I've got a few of those...the most enjoyable was looking for Dracula Battle for about 3 years, then managing to find it at a used CD store for $17...
What else...well, back in the day I had two mp3s from one of the original VGM importers from years ago, a guy named Moonraiser. He sent them out, tracks that I later learned were arranged by Ryo Yonemitsu. Fast forward 5 years, and I finally have Megami Tensei I&II OST in my hands. Now to look for the rest of the series...
Similarly, I had an mp3 from Panzer Dragoon that I initially believed was from the original soundtrack, but turned out to be from the Full Sound Version CD (more or less an arranged soundtrack). Finally got my hands on that last week...
I'm sure there'll be more in the future.
Strohmaier, who needs to get himself a pic...

I spent around six months searching for the Eternal Arcadia OST and finally found it when SS decided to let me review some Poporogue music. I've noticed that most people don't have the Dark Rift theme since for some ungodly reason it wasn't included on the OST, so I send it whenever possible so people can get all of the songs from that great RPG.
