View Full Version : Expanding the collection

My friend recently got back from Japan. She had picked up two CDs for me as well. I have to say I was a bit suprised since she didn't have any idea what it was I had asked her for. I suppose the NEO GEO thing was enough for her to get something though. I've added two new albums to my collection.

NEO-GEO DJ Station 2 ~B.O.F. Returns
NEO GEO GUYS SONG COLLECTION

I'm not sure how rare they are in the VGM scene. I would imagine not very rare at all. However they are two albums that I didn't have and two I'm glad I have now. It's kind of funny to hear some of the SNK Character voice actors singing. I know a few of the tracks were included on some older albums as well. It's great listening to "Choi" sing. Of course there is nothing quite like hearing Iori doing "Never Loose My Way" or Kyo and Iori performing Sun and Moon, which seems to be performed live. I tend to expand my game collection almost weekly anymore. But VGM is something of a rarity for me to expand on. So I'm rather excited about getting two new albums. And they came with these fancy little pad things to put under the CD while it's in the case. I think that's what they are for anyway. The lady at the store added them and two plastic holders when she bought them.

You know to be perfectly honest, I havent given much SNK music a listen. I really should one of these days. Is there somewhere you suggest I start?

I really like some of the Samurai Spirits stuff, though I might be in the minority on that. My fave is the 2nd game's soundtrack, Shin Samurai Spirits, PCCB-00164. Some nice synthesized shakuhachi going on there!

If we are talking SNK..., I love the Samurai Spirits Symphonic Soundtrax PCCB-00198 as well as Samurai Spirits 2 - Asura Zanmaden Arranged Soundtrack PCCB-00338.

Many of the King of Fighters Arranged soundtracks should also be recommended.

I've heard the King of Fighters Symphonic Trax and was really impressed with it. Iori, what other KOF soundtracks would you recommend from the OSTs, ASTs, etc.? I imagine the games have some pretty cool music if only I knew what soundtracks to sample. I've hard part of Garou but only liked the one really jazzy theme of that Bennet character.

You know what angers me is that the Garou: Mark of the Wolves just has a bunch of voice and SE crap. The OST doesn't really satisfy me, as it's not that great. Then they don't have the dreamcast arranged tracks on it, which are what I long for, especially the ending theme, Ballad of the Wolf, or what you call it.

Anybody know where there would be an available rip of the Mark of the Wolves dreamcast arranged soundtrack?

I didn't realize that soundtrack was to a DC game. Now I'm even more disappointed in the sound quality of that soundtrack. I almost thought it was for the Genesis or something.

Zephyrin

No, that soundtrack is for the original Neo-Geo version. They arranged the music for the Dreamcast, but it's not on the OST. Which pisses me off. That's why I'm asking for it.

I'm looking at the dreamcast disc as I type this, I think I might be able to make a rip of the arrange tracks. I'll edit this post if anything comes out of it.

EDIT: Music's extracted =D
Not too bad, it's at 44khz. There are 139 samples in there, I haven't even listened to them all yet. I'll sort them and encode them later. No tracknames though, as I have no idea what they would be.

Sweet. Just match up the OST to whatever sounds similar to arrangements, shouldn't be too hard. And as for the new ending themes and opening themes, those you can find names for in the credits when you beat the game.

Mmmmm...can't wait to get my hands on it. ^_^

Well for recommendations. I would stay away from a lot of the heavy drama tracks for most of you. There are a good fair of them that are a lot of talking and little singing. But your pretty safe with any game albums. It's the regular Neo-Geo albums that generally have it. In terms of what is good to listen to, it's hard to say. It depends on your taste. There is a big difference from Samurai Shodown Style stuff to King of Fighters and all. Just making a bit of a stereo-type I'd say you guys would be pretty safe with some of the earlier Neo games. Things that are KOF 98 and before should be nicely suited for most. If your just starting, I would suggest checking out some of the Neo Geo Super Live! concert albums. They tend to have a good amount of variety to them.

Shouldn't be too hard, but since I don't have the OST, I'll leave the naming to whoever can get it done ;)

Meh, to be honest, I don't even think my mp3s have names on them....Iori would probably have to transtate them. >_>

Thanks Iori. As soon as I can find some tracklistings for those KOF albums I'll be sure to check them out. For some reason Track 01, etc., doesn't make me want to download the songs.

what the fuck are you talking about Zeratul?

Zeratul

The KOF OSTs I've found don't have tracklistings. How am I to know what the songs are if they're unnamed?

Zephyrin

yeah, but yuo sounded like Iori had already translated something...

Anemic Boy

I've worked on some. I did translations for the Neo Geo 94 Live that I got from IkarusZino back in the day. As well as some for the Shin Samurai Spirits album. I have more time availible then I use to, so if you tell me some albums I can get them done within a week or so provided I remember.

Well....I'm just asking for Mark of the Wolves. Think that's doable?

this is the best pic I know of.

The picture is to blury to make out some characters. If you can get me the catalog number it can be found on a japanese site fairly easy. I'll see if I can find the number from those pics, but just for referance to the future. Give me the name of the album and catalog number.

No problem, it's called Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=SCDC-00006&btnG=Google+Search).

Just search the catalog number for MOTW and that is what you will get. ;)

Yeah... love those KOF ASTs...

For sheer variety, the KOF'99 arranged album is a winner in my book -power rock, music reminscent of a club scene, even a touch of jazz.

Unfortunately, I doubt I can match up most of those titles to the tracks I have here. It came down to 140 mp3s at (believe it or not) 140 mbytes in lame vbr. There's tons of ambient tracks in here, intro sounds and such.

Lately, it seems like I have just tons of things to upload but lack the bandwith to get it over with. This one will have to wait a while.

What are you talking about? The OST has 56 tracks, if you have more, you don't have the OST, you have a console rip.

Policenaut
10-07-2002, 05:46 PM
Read a bit above, it is a rip, one I made myself. That's why track names are a problem.

I converted the original CRI ADX audio to lame vbr mp3s. Everything that's not voice or a sound effect is there. The intro isn't even narrated.

;\ How long is a while?

Though I know I shouldn't be going at this with all the homework I have this week. :p

edit: I searched on yahoo japan and couldn't find the ost. =\

for personal knowledge...since I can't paste this into notepad.
