"For anyone familiar with Yasunori Mitsuda’s work, good music is not confined to any one genre. Mitsuda is a master of music as he swims in versatility, articulating a vast array of emotions with out sacrificing quality. His high credited scores are some of the most popular in the world of video game music, have strong replay value, and are a necessity for the listeners.

In appreciation of this man’s work, OneUp Studios presents Time & Space - A Tribute to Yasunori Mitsuda. This album seeks to reinterpret his finest pieces and showcases the astounding beauty within electronic scores. Filled with a variety of both live and synthesized instrumentation, and a wide arrange of styles, the crew of OneUp Studios presents their "props" for this composer while still adding their own creativity to their mixes.

This is not intended to be delivered to a solely niche market. This music transcends the boundaries of "game music" and stands up on its own outside the context of the games. This album is an ideal introduction to the vast genre of video game music and is also a perfect companion to any gamer's music library. More emotions than nostalgia are utilized within the confines of the disc, giving an interlude for whatever accompanying mood.

The album starts with the chime of a clock fading into a haunting flute solo turning into a wailing electric guitar. From there, the limits of time and space bear little meaning. To jazz, to flamenco, to far away times, the album flows across any imagined borders without fear of reprisal. A labor of intense dedication, OneUp has taken Mitsuda’s work to a level it has long deserved, and this album is a celebration of that effort. An experience made for anyone in need of something different and dynamic, this album is certain to offer an ambitious adventure for the ears that will be often placed on repeat.

I'm certainly eager to hear this one. And I'll be going to MAGFest, so it'll be a little convenient. ^^

Moguta, do they have a mailing list? I'd like to be notified of all future releases. I preordered it the second I saw this...

The samples are clear and strong. The arrangements appear to be solid, so this exceed PMM in many ways.

There doesn't seem to be any OneUp mailing list as of yet. But GFF/Slightly Dark will know when another album comes out. (-;

Being I'm also going to MAGfest I may check this out. Though, it may be more intelligent to swipe someone elses copy for a second, see if I like it, then if I do buy it myself :p

Try before you buy is always a good idea.

Well, I preordered this one, the samples sound VERY sharp and nicely done! Thanks for letting us know, Moguta!

Jazz, flamenco, etc., remixes? I may just have to order that album because of those two words. I imagine there are some incredible remixes on that album.

I just got off the phone with Moguta from MAGfest and he said the T&S album was pretty good. He only got to listen to it for 15 minutes or so, but he thought it was good.

Well, as soon as my gamemusic.com order gets to me I'll order something from both PMM and KFSS. I'll have to listen to more of Squaredance before I make a decision though since the Mechanical Calcobrena sample wasn't that impressive.

I listened to the SQUAREDANCE tracks on demo and I was rather enjoying the songs. Certainly made my head bop some. I can't wait to hear it.

Well, I hope they ship mine in pristine order to Germany. Costs a hell for delivery - but I MUST have it.

I just got mine today! YIPPEE! I am going to listen to it while I drive to work. I will post my thoughts later today. Anyone else get theirs yet?

I really don't want to buy it or copy it. Why does someone need to reinterpret the original music itself? The music isn't original, and what was wrong with Yasunori's work. Ya, you could call it a tribute, but really? Another question I have to ask is why make copies of the original music but refuse to make copies of a remix and tell every one to buy it instead?

Damn, I sure hope they will send me mine to Germany. Damn the customs too, those buggers. They got every single package sent to me so far - let's hope this one makes it through.

OMFG! This album is seriously amazing. I listened to the whole thing today, and I am in love with it. I love their use of electric guitar throughout the entire CD. It reminds me of the way it was used in a FF arrangement I love (Terra in Black). I was hooked from the get go with this one. The arrangement of Time Scar is nothing less than awesome. The guitar adds such a nice feel to it. Overall, the arrangements are easily recognizable as well. I am not as familiar with the Chrono Cross soundtrack as I am CT and Xenogears so there were some that I was a tad unsure of.

One of my only complaints would be, in June Mermaid, the melody is mixed too quietly, and the background piano is a tad overpowering. I would have also liked more Xenogears songs, but I am tad obsessed with XG ;).

I definately recommend this album. I am very pleased to own it, and will be listening to it for years to come. Sometimes I forget how much I love Mitsuda's work. This is an awesome tribute. I hope OneUp Studios gives us more work of this quality!

This CD is better than PMM, but I found a few arrangements and instrument choices to be weird. Reminds me of a less-stylized version of Brink of Time.

I wish there were more CT music. Somehow arranging Celtic/ World music to jazz/rock music doesn't do it for me.

I ordered this when I first saw it, as a result of a story on RPGamer (http://www.rpgamer.com). Sadly, I'm still waiting for this to arrive in the mail.

It sounds like I'll enjoy it though, that's for sure.

Vivi, nothing is wrong with his work. In fact, Mitsuda does some nice work; that is why a remix album was done =p

OneUp liked Mitsuda's work enough to honor him by remixing some of his better songs. Many of them were arranged differently and some were arranged to really improve the work.

The reason you 'pay' is the fact it isn't cheap to make a CD that over 500 people buy. Also it would be nice to be able to fun future projects.

Also these remixes are the original work of the artists with Mitsuda's work as the base for it. It isn't like OneUp went and copied Mitsuda's work and changed a few instruments and maybe a tempo here or there. Completely original work =p

I'm glad you guys are enjoying the CD, hopefully they'll do another one ^_^

On another point, bands release tribute albums or single cover songs of other band's songs all the time, and all they need to do is give credit to the original band for writing the song. They don't necessairily even need the band's permission (they need permission to reprint the lyrics though). I've never really seen anyone ever question the ethics of releasing an Iron Maiden or Elvis tribute album.

Eriol

They do need to pay a mechanical license, even if it's a tribute album. One Up Studios did.

I hear rumors of their next album to be a Nintendo one. I'd be in in near heaven. Hmm, Lent, we should do a falcom tribute ;)

I have gotten mine yesterday! Yay! It made it's way safe through customs even.

And it's a GREAT listen! GREAT GREAT GREAT, and very well synthesized safe for ONE ugly exclusion: the 10th Song (Song of Feeling) is just a cacophony to my ears. Something must've gone wrong with their violin player, right?

Eriol

I don't know. I sold mine. I think it was marginal.

Right. Look how I care! ;)

This is quite fortunate because he's tossing around albums I like very much. If only I had the playing money.

Given a choice between a Konami Battle Album, a Konami Album orchestrated by the London Philharmonic, and OneUpStudios' Time and Space album after listening to samples of those albums, I know where my money is going (HINT: it's NOT OneUpStudios).

OneUpStudios and PMM simply do not arrange in a style or composition that I enjoy. So, I sell those CDs.

I know Eriol, I am just giving you crap. Arent I allowed?

Besides, I'd love to get my hands on the battles, the only place that I can right now, is Jodo, and he wants like a 100 bucks each for them, which is a tad rich for my blood.

I support Oneup and PMM though, because I think they are doing a great job and deserve the support. I enjoy their albums very much.

I know what you mean Rince. If only I'd noticed him selling the GGOSC in time . . . sigh. I really don't want to have to burn the MP3s I have because I enjoy Daisuke Ishiwatari's work so much.

I guess you'll be paying attention to the Flea Market more often. :D
