Going through the Blood Rayne music rip that schoolbus uploaded me the other day, I stumbled across something that just had to be a mistake. As I listened to the fourth track from the rip, I thought, "How did a Chrono Cross song get mixed in amongst the rip?" Lo and behold, it was an "original" work, but not as original as the composer would have us believe. Download the clips and see for yourself: (Original is Disc 3, Track 2 from the Chrono Cross OST.)

Do you know of any other songs that sound like blatant rip-offs of other songs? List some of them here.

On Time and Space track eight, "To times once forgotten." That song reminds me of the "Ending Theme" to FFX, not Suteki da ne...

edit: And your right, those do have similar attributes.

hrm... well all that comes to mind is that the track "Oshiro and Toride" on the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island soundtrack seems a bit similar to "Windmill Hut" on the Zelda OoT soundtrack, not identical, but similar. I don't have an FTP, so i can't list em', but if you have em, give them both a listen.

Just listening to "atreju's quest" from the neverending story ost and i think the beginning sounds like the final fantasy ending theme. (I know : the neverending story is not a game).

Which one came first?

They don't really sound alike to me, but maybe it's because my speakers are really crappy and I could only hear static to the beat of the song.

The only thing I can think of is that the opening song to Rebus/Kartia is that it sounds a lot like the Fire Temple from Legend of Zelda:TOoT.

"The Pagan Island" from VM Japan is a direct rip-off of "Cyan" from FF6. I'm also convinced some of the tunes (or at least parts of them) are ripped straight from various Goemon games.

Aren't those both composed by Koji Kondo, though?

If so, I would think it's permissable to have a composer sometimes re-use their own works.

There are 3 rips-off i detected :

DoDonPachi 2 - Intro <> Jogeir Liljedahl - Overture (you can find the .mod on the net)
Jurassic Park GB (4th tune in .GBS file) <> Martin Galway - Comic Bakery (you can find the .SID file on the net and some .mod covers of it)
Jim Power - Level 1 <> Ys3 - Fire Cavern

I'll update the missing infos as i always save the two tunes when notice a rip-off. ;)

Jogeir Liljedahl is know as a great musician and also as a great ripper, but for DoDonPachi 2 it's not possible as his tune is damn old (from good old Amiga demoscene times).

There are also some Castlevania tunes which sounds close to Yngwie Malmsteen work.

Yeah, i imagine Koji Kondo did both of them. Both are good tracks, so i don't mind.

Listen to the Legend of Mana OST and the song Mystic City Geo. I could swear Yoko Shimonoru just remixed the Mushroom Kingdom theme for that one.
