Has anyone here played Square's TRPG Front Mission 3? The first time I played it I knew I was hooked on it because of the incredible gameplay.

But, the thing that is possibly most enjoyable about the game is its incredible music, composed by Hayama Koji and Matsuo Hayato. It has some of the most innovative VGM I've heard with its surprisingly complex techno compositions and orchestral brass songs. Sometimes, both styles are combined to create some of the most interesting songs in the game.

So, if you've played the game, what did you think of the music (in spite of the sound effects kind of overshadowing it?) If you have the OST or downloaded the MP3s, what did you think of them? What songs were your favorites?

Well, since I've already answered the first two questions, my favorite songs are "Government", "Starting", "Infiltration", "City (Japan)", "Base Invasion", "Vs. Mercenaries", "Advancing Attack", "Forest (Southeast Asia)", "Fort Invasion", "Aggression", "Swift Attack", "Big Battle", and "Ending". There's so much depth to every song that it is often the most played OST in my MP3 Player.

You can read a nice review and sample some of the best songs from the following link: Front Mission 3 Review and Samples (http://www.altpop.com/stc/reviews/fm3ost.htm)

I've played about a half-hour of the first one, but not FM3.

Favourite song from the OST would be The Government. It cheers me up when I'm feeling blue.

This soundtrack is composed by Matsuo Hayato and Hayama Koji. For Ogre Battle fans, that alone should make it a must listen. Hatato does so many cool things in this OST that once you listen to the songs you'll probably kick yourself for not having done so earlier.

I remember hearing sooo many favourable comments bandied around about this one and when I played the game I remember being way, way, way disappointed. Pithy and weak and lacking in any kind of impact whatsoever. But I freely admit it was a long time ago and the game bored me on some levels (I like strategy stuff, but there were... things... about FM3 that really didn't gel with me) so I ditched it way before the end. And you seem to imply the sound balance in the game does some damage to the soundtrack - which I could still credit, even if I hate the music - so... eh, I haven't acquired any new stuff to listen to for a while, so maybe I will pick it up off DC in the near future. It is one of the soundtracks where the difference between my opinion and everyone elses' most intrigues me (the clear winner being how much I can't stand 95% of Uematsu's work and a large amount of other people, well, can ^ ^ ).

I liked the game, but found the music to be horrible.
These composers are capable of so much more.

I rather hear nothing then to hear people say that the music is horrible. ...

I was hooked on both the game and the soundtrack immediatly. It saddens me that this soundtrack isn't very popular...just listen to the battle themes and you'll understand why the soundtrack is so great.

My favorite tracks:

City (Japan), Base Invasion, Escape, Attack, Forest (Southeast Asia), Aggression, VS Mercenaries, Sorrow, Lunge, Swift Attack, Stage End 1.

Most of my favorites are battle songs. I don't know why...they just stand out which is good because 70% (if not more) of the game are spend fighting battles.

I really, really, REALLY hope that they will both do the Front Mission 4 soundtrack. As far as I know nothing is known about the composer(s) yet.

Yeah, it's not really bad, though there are better out there.

The real worst Front Mission sound was that of Front Mission "ALTERNATIVE"... man that sucked.

I've downloaded some of Front Mission Alternative and its music was so bad that in comparison it makes Project Majestic Mix and OneUP Studios look like professional composers instead of some inane kids on a keyboard.
