With the recent release of the Genso Suikoden Vocal Collections, Wild Arms Vocal Collections and the just announced Final Fantasy X Vocal Collections (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SSCX-10073), one must wonder 'why right now?'.

Does it seem like the industry is pumping this albums out of no where to anyone else? Not to say they aren't good but I can't recall another time where these many vocal collections were released in such a short amount of time.

They're trying to make VGM more mainstream to attract more people's interest. Since most mainstream music has vocals, it seems logical, although that's not to say that the move towards more vocals is necessarily a good thing.

Vocals always sell better than OSTs in Japan, generally. It's not a trend, its' been like that for a while, you just haven't noticed it. Drama albums and vocal collections far outnumber OSTs.
